Regenerative Medicine & PRP Therapy
Regenerative medicine uses concentrated material from your own body, such as platelets from your blood or cells from your bone marrow, to support healing in injured joints, tendons, and soft tissue. The two treatments we offer are platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), both delivered by image-guided injection.
Treatments
Platelet-rich plasma (PRP)
A small amount of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, which carry growth factors involved in tissue repair. The concentrate is injected into the injured tendon, ligament, or joint under ultrasound guidance.
Bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC)
Bone marrow is drawn, usually from the back of the hip bone under local anesthetic, and concentrated in the same visit. The concentrate is then injected into the affected joint or tissue.
Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT)
For men with symptoms of low testosterone confirmed by blood testing, TRT restores testosterone levels with ongoing monitoring of labs and side effects.
Conditions treated
Who is a good candidate
PRP and BMAC are offered as a considered option for the right candidates and are discussed honestly alongside every other option. Evidence for these treatments varies by condition, and they are not a substitute for surgery when surgery is clearly needed. Dr. Desai will review your imaging and history and tell you whether a regenerative treatment is likely to help, or whether another approach makes more sense.
What to expect
PRP and BMAC are outpatient procedures. Expect some soreness in the treated area for several days. Many patients are asked to pause anti-inflammatory medications before and after treatment and to follow a gradual return to activity. Improvement, when it comes, typically builds over weeks to months, and your follow-up visits will track your progress.
TRT begins with a consultation and blood work. If treatment is appropriate, you'll have regular follow-up visits and lab checks.
